Historic Honesdale offers up its famous holiday hospitality during the annual Honesdale for the Holidays event on Friday and Saturday, November 23 and 24. Honesdale’s fine stores and businesses will host an “Open House” with seasonal warmth for their shoppers, clients and visitors. We invite you to browse through the great variety of stores, learn about the wonderful local services, and dine at one of the many area restaurants and cafes. For a full list of stores, please go to www.VisitHonesdalePa.com and click “Shop Honesdale”, or stop by one of the shops in Honesdale and pick our brochure, complete with a colorful map, list of events, and historic walking tour.

Honesdale’s shops offer a large variety of great products including beautiful gifts, clothing and footwear for young and old, electronics and appliances, health care shops and products, jewelry and bridal fashions, and more. Our merchants are famous for their knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful service.

The Fred Miller Pavilion on Honesdale’s historic Main Street will be alive with holiday music on both days. Plan to stop and enjoy DJ Lori Gabriel on Friday from Noon to 5:00 p.m. on Friday, and DJ Tom Emanski from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Our holiday music is sponsored by GHP member RE/MAX WAYNE.

Friday, November 23rd will also feature Honesdale’s Annual Santa Parade. The parade, which kicks off at 6:00 p.m., starts at Main and Fourth Streets, proceeds up Main Street, turns right on tenth Street, and proceeds to Honesdale’s Central Park. Activities in Central Park immediately after the parade and co-sponsored by our friends at 95.3 DNH & Classic Hits 105.3, will include the lighting of the Star on Irving Cliff, the lighting of the Christmas Tree in the park and Christmas Carols, all under Santa’s twinkling eyes. And there will be inviting refreshments courtesy of Ellen Memorial Health Care Center and time for the children to visit with Santa after the festivities.

On Saturday, November 24th, craft vendors will dot Main Street near the pavilion while you enjoy an old fashioned horse drawn carriage ride, which will depart from the corner of Main & 10th Streets (in front of the First National Community Bank) from noon to 5:00 p.m. Make sure to look for Santa and his buddy Rudolph as you stroll the streets or pass by on the carriage. They may have a special treat for that good little boy or girl. And we may even get a visit from Frosty! Beautifully clad Victorian strollers will promenade the historic streets while the joyful voices of the Honesdale High School Chorus offer carols as they stroll down on Main Street.

Children are invited to learn how to make their own Christmas cards under the instruction of local artist Lisa Macchia-Ohliger from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Wayne County Arts Alliance, 812 Main Street.

The Stourbridge Model Railroad Club will also host an Open House on Saturday, November 24 in the Grace Episcopal Parish Hall located at 827 Church Street from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Model Railroad Club has created a large HO gauge railroad display that depicts the mythical town of Wayne. Talk about stepping back in time!

The newly renovated and expanded Wayne County Historical Society Museum, located at 810 Main Street, right in the center of town, features a full-scale replica of the famous Stourbridge Lion – the first locomotive to run on a track in America. The museum also contains many interesting photographs from days gone by, and is open on Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. They invite you to join them for their annual Open House on Saturday, November 24, beginning at 4:00 p.m. Be sure to pick up this year’s collectible holiday ornament, or one of many other holiday gifts available in their gift shop.

And right next door, at 812 Main Street, enjoy an open house, also beginning at 4:00 p.m. with artist’s demonstrations and refreshments at the Honesdale home of the Wayne County Arts Alliance.

This Thanksgiving Day weekend, we all have many things to be thankful for. The Greater Honesdale Partnership invites you to Tour Historic Honesdale and give thanks for the rich history that makes Honesdale andWayneCountythe special place that it is.

Besides all the fun activities offered on November 23 and 24, Sunday November 25 offers a special chance to experience Honesdale’s rich history.

From 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., you will have the opportunity to spend time with your family and friends as you tour the Wayne County Historical Society, 810 Main Street (small fee for admission this day), the Honesdale Fire Museum, 1205 N. Main Street, and The Old Stone Jail, located on the corner of 10th Street, next to the Wayne County Court House, by the river.

Additionally, Honesdale is known for its magnificent churches and synagogue, with their beautiful architecture, stain glass, and abundant history. Four of these historic houses of worship will open their doors from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and invite you in for a short tour. Please plan on visiting St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 107 7th Street, Temple Beth Israel, 615 Court Street; Grace Episcopal Church, 827 Church Street; and the First Presbyterian Church, 201 10th Street; There is no charge for the tours.

There are many, many fun activities planned by our local business and non-profit community during the month of December, so be looking for the special Honesdale for the Holidays tabloid that will appear in many papers just before Thanksgiving.

And don’t forget to mark your calendar so you don’t miss the beautiful luminaries that light up Main and Church Streets on Christmas Eve.

Holiday shoppers and visitors, Christmas music lovers, carriage riders, train enthusiasts, and diners will surely enjoy historic Honesdale during Honesdale for the Holidays on Friday and Saturday, November 23 and 24 and all throughout December.
